Today i arrived in the Netherlands for a conference and was given a bicycle to ride around on for the duration of the event. It’s a little embarrassing to say that i think it took me a good couple of minutes to figure out the locking system (one leaves the key in whilst cycling!) but soon i was off hooning around town – reminding myself repeatedly to keep right.

It was unreal. There are separated cycle paths almost *everywhere* and more bikes on the road than i can comprehend. There are evening parking lots for bikes, letting one know how many vacant spots are left. Wandering through the streets at about 10pm one of the signs said it still have over 2000 vacancies! It was so good not to be the minority on the road for a change.
